It goes without saying that a child’s formative years is crucial to their overall development. Almost 85% of a child’s brain growth occurs in the first three years of life, and a strong body defense system helps to promote development and learning. Hence, it is important to keep children healthy during this period to help them achieve their full learning potential.
Towards this end, Abbott launched its Similac Millions of Moms campaign to bring together like-minded parents who strive to give the best for their children.
“Parents see the value of providing their children a conducive environment to learn and grow and are making every effort to ensure that they are raising healthy, smart, and happy children who are ready to face the world. Today, we are excited to launch the Similac Millions of Moms campaign to support parents, and shed light on the role they play in laying the foundation for a strong body defense system in their children. Through their personal stories and experiences, we hope to empower more parents to tap into their natural protective instincts and encourage activities that will boost their children’s body defense system which will in turn improve their cognitive development,” said Dr Nina Mazera Mohd Said, the medical director of Abbott Nutrition.
Evading illness and promoting faster learning
Illnesses are stressors that can disrupt a child’s learning, leading to poorer developmental outcomes. For school-going children, every sick day can reduce a child’s learning, growth and developmental potential.
Science shows us a child’s body defense system can have a significant effect on their brain development while research shows that a strong body defense system goes hand-in-hand with better cognition to help children learn faster.
Nina pointed out that 70% of a child’s body defense system exist in the gut. Through good nutrition with scientifically-backed ingredients such as 2'-FL, we can support a child’s body defense system during their developmental years.
2'-FL acts as a prebiotic, nourishing the good bacteria found in the gut while keeping a child’s digestive system healthy. Beyond its prebiotic effects, 2'-FL has also been shown to support the defense system beyond the gut while supporting the innate body defense system of children, acting like gates and walls to protect them. It acts as a decoy for germs, preventing it from affecting the cells and causing illness.
Abbott is the first company in Malaysia to bring 2'-FL to growing-up milk – designed for children ages one and above. In addition to supporting the body’s defense system, Similac Gold with 2'-FL is the only growing-up milk with scientifically proven Eye-Q Nutrition System, which contains 10 essential nutrients with DHA, Lutein and Natural Vitamin E that help support the development of brain connections for faster learning.
Similac Millions of Moms campaign
As a child grows, parents play an integral role as physical and psychological protectors, educators and are the biggest support system for children during this time.
The Similac Millions of Moms campaign brings together Asian mothers to share their stories on motherhood and their positive experience with Similac Gold with 2'-FL.
The campaign is now open to Malaysian parents who can be part of this movement by submitting a photograph and creative caption to www.millionmoms.my to demonstrate how they have made their children’s body defense system and learning potential a priority.
“We are giving parents who share a singular goal of providing the best for their children a platform to have their voices heard and encourage others like themselves to recognize the close relationship between a child’s body defense system and his or her learning capability,” added Nina.
