Colon hydrotherapy is a gentle way of infusing sterilised water into the colon via the rectum to remove encrusted fecal matter and gas.

A 45-year-old lady had been suffering from migraines, lactose intolerance, fatigue, pains in her left leg and abdomen, as well as in her lower back over ten years. She was equally dependent on pain relievers and laxatives as she was unable to pass stool without the aid of laxatives.

Although in the beginning the laxatives were working fine, as time passed – her colon became reliant on them and she had to increase the dosage just to pass motion. As adviced by her doctor, consuming more fibre did not help either.

If these sounds familiar, you aren’t alone.

Dr Ameen (pix), Director, Holistic Ayurose explained that a person is perceived to have a clean stomach after suffering from diarrhea.

“However, the stomach is never clean because the waste creeps in and hangs around where bacteria and parasites starts to grow. This is what causes colon inflammation and cancer,” he said.

He then likened the colon to a long pipe which is 33 foot long that is frequently abused with the types of food and the drinks which causes degenerative disorders to happen.

“Most of the disorders are digestive related like diabetes, liver problem, constipation, piles, diarrhea and food allergies. In addition, the good bacteria completely degenerates with antibiotics or when we drink water with high chlorine levels. This causes the colon to become sluggish – as there is no space for the waste matter to hang on for too long. As a result, the colon expands – to balloon out – and the waste matters start accumulating deep internally,” he added.

When these matters are not taken out of the gut, there is no way that good bacteria can flourish for a proper digestive system.

What is Colon Hydrotherapy
Ameen explained that colon hydrotherapy is a gentle way of infusing sterilised water into the colon via the rectum to remove encrusted fecal matter and gas.

“During the proses, the machine monitors the pressure, temperature and the flow. So, it’s basically, a very controlled, safe environment to clean up the Cecum, the Descending colon and the Ascending colon,” he said.

Although the proses itself is said to be gentle, some 100 to 200 litres of water is used to go a lot deeper during the proses.

According to Ameen, some individuals literarily fall asleep, while some others may find it slightly sensitive due to inflammation in the gut.

Age requirement
The treatment can be done for those who are 13 years and above until the age of 70.

“But again, the matter is very subjective as there are contra-indications of very high blood pressure, heart problems and other medical conditions in which cases we will not do it,” he said.

Long time benefits
Colon hydrotherapy is said to improve digestion, absorption rate, regulate bacterial balance and improve bowel movement, while lowering allergies and aiding in weight loss.
