SUNGAI BULOH HOSPITAL HOLDS SYMPOSIUM ON REHABILITATION PERSPECTIVES OF SPINAL CORD INJURYAPRIL 1, 7.30 PM
More than 400 participants throughout Malaysia convened at Institut Latihan Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia Sg Buloh early this morning to attend the National Symposium 'Rehabilitation Perspectives in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Management – Facing the Challenges Together.
Organised by Sungai Buloh Hospital (HSB), the event consisted of symposium lectures, demonstration and hands-on series with the main objective to share knowledge, experience as well as to create awareness and interest in selected SCI related clinical skills. Dr Akmal Hafizah Zamli, the organising chairman who is also the Head of Rehabilitation Medicine Department of the hospital said that SCI is one of the most catastrophic events one could have in their life. “In Malaysia, the commonness causes are road traffic accidents, work injuries and falls. It frequently results in multi-system impairments such as neurogenic bladder and bowel; neuropathic pain conditions; pressure ulcers; orthostatic hypotension; deep vein thrombosis and depressive disorders." "SCI leads to serious disability resulting in inability to work, which leads to enormous psychosocial and economic impacts not only to the affected individuals, but also their families,” she said. Dr Hj Kamaruddin Hj Alias Director HSB who launched the event congratulated the SCI team of the hospital for providing comprehensive treatment with a goal of preventing secondary complications, maximising physical functioning of the patients with the ultimatum of achieving full re-integration into the community. |
