Serdang Hospital participate in live transmission - paediatric cardiac transcatheter interventions, VietnamJanuary 14, 2020
2020 started with a bang for Paediatric Cardiology Unit of Hospital Serdang. Barely into the second week of the new decade, the unit achieved not one, but two milestones in the field of Paediatric Cardiology.
The Paediatric Cardiology Unit of Serdang Hospital was invited to actively participate in the live transmission of the paediatric cardiac transcatheter interventions during the recently concluded 9th Vietnam Congress of Congenital and Structural Heart Disease entitled “Unconventional Interventions in Congenital Heart Disease from A to Z”, held from January 8 -10 at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The Vietnam congress is an annual Paediatric Cardiology meeting held since 2012 and is well attended by the who’s who of the Paediatric cardiology fraternities from all over the world. It is the largest paediatric cardiac intervention meeting within the Asian region. During the congress, several esteemed and established Paediatric cardiac centres around the globe are usually invited to share live transmissions of paediatric cardiac transcatheter interventions, and the cases performed will be discussed with the panellist of experts in Vietnam. Interventions performed on four cases This year, the Paediatric Cardiology Unit of Hospital Serdang was invited to be part of this important event. Four cases were selected with the consent of the patients and parents, intensely debated and discussed in real-time prior to successfully performing the interventions. These were done by the local Paediatric Cardiologists from the Paediatric cardiac centres within the Ministry of Health - namely from Hospital Serdang, Hospital Pulau Pinang, Pusat Jantung Sarawak and Hospital Queen Elizabeth II, Kota Kinabalu. There was also a live transmission of a lecture given by Datuk Dr Mazeni Alwi; the prominent Paediatric Cardiologist, from the National Heart Institute (IJN). This was indeed an honour and a testament to the standards and expertise of the local, homegrown talents by the Paediatric Cardiology fraternities all over the world. This live transmission was also attended by Dr Nizam Mat Bah, Head of the National Paediatric Cardiology Service. Meanwhile, the inaugural live transmission was successfully orchestrated and organised by Dr Koh Ghee Tiong, Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist from Hospital Serdang along with other fellow Paediatric Cardiologists - Dr Mohd Amin, Dr Norliza Ali, Dr Ooi Yinn Khurn, Dr Putri Yubbu, Dr Johan Aref, Anaesthetists, and the paramedics which include the nursing personnel, medical assistants and radiographers. |
