Zee Avi team up to produce music video for psoriasis patientsDecember 20, 2019
Psoriasis is more than just patches on the skin surface. About 30% of Psoriasis patients develop Psoriatic Arthritis and that’s just one of the associated comorbidities. If left untreated, Psoriasis patients are at risk of developing other serious health issues like high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, depression, anxiety and kidney disease.
Currently, there is no cure for Psoriasis, but there are treatments to help patients manage the symptoms. However, many Malaysian patients have limited access to these treatments, hence Novartis Corporation Malaysia brought the Psoriasis Association of Malaysia and Zee Avi together to launch a musical petition to garner support for patients to get better access. “At Novartis, our mission is to discover new ways to improve and extend people’s lives, and this is guided by our purpose of reimagining medicine. Backed by this belief, we are pleased to support the Psoriasis Association of Malaysia’s petition to gain better access to treatment. Psoriasis, if left untreated can lead to other comorbidities that can leave a lasting impact on the patient, hence it is important that we act on it now,” said Patrik Grande, President, Novartis Malaysia. To continue gathering support for the petition, Novartis and the Psoriasis Association of Malaysia decided to unite Malaysians through a song that celebrates these Psoriasis fighters and continue raising awareness around the condition and its comorbidities. “We are delighted to be collaborating with Zee Avi on this one of a kind musical petition and we hope this musical journey will encourage everyone to lend Psoriasis patients a hand by signing the petition,” added Patrik. My Skin The song entitled ‘My Skin’ was written and composed by renowned singer Zee Avi and producer Yuswa Ansari. The lyrics were inspired via a workshop conducted between Zee Avi and a handful of Psoriasis patients who shared their challenges living with the burden of the condition, as well as their hopes. Following the workshop, fourteen Psoriasis patients came together to record the song and film the music video, overcoming their flare-ups to send a message and rally support for the petition. “It was a great pleasure for me to be involved on such a meaningful project. I am pleased to have met all these strong, inspiring people who helped me understand Psoriasis on a personal level. I hope that with this song, we are able to unite; to come out and support them,” said Zee Avi. |
