The MyGenom project aims to sequence 10,000 Malaysian genomes and generate a reference genome for the country.

Officially launched by Chang Lih Kang; Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation and Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad; Minister of Health, MyGenom project aims to sequence 10,000 Malaysian genomes (2,400 genomes in Phase 1) and generate a reference genome for the country. “Genomics is a critical part of public health, from characterizing new and emerging pathogens to revolutionizing the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease,” said Gretchen Weightman, Illumina’s Senior Vice President of the Asia-Pacific, Middle East & Africa region. “Through our most powerful sequencer ever - NovaSeq X Plus, we look forward to accelerating the MyGenom project and supporting the ministries’ goal to sequence more genomes and identify genes involved in both rare and common diseases. Greater diversity in genomics can provide valuable insights into health disparities and human biology. Population genome studies promotes diversity in genomic research and mitigates inequalities.
