Tata Consultancy partners with National Cancer Society to create CANSupport app for tackling pediatric cancer

March 24, 2023 @ 11AM
Tata Consultancy Services Malaysia (TCS Malaysia) today announced its partnership with Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) and National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM) for the introduction of CANSupport, a new digital initiative designed to help improve quality of care for childhood cancer patients in Malaysia.

Under this initiative, TCS will work with NCSM to develop a technology platform that will support doctors and caregivers to stay connected, while tracking and monitoring their patients’ pain levels and symptoms. It will act as a one-stop centre for all cancer-specific services in Malaysia, providing doctors with real-time patient recovery information by leveraging data analytics, resources and teleconsultations. A unique feature of the app is that it enables caregivers to request air transport support from MAG’s airlines for children who need to travel for treatments.

The new digital solution - to be introduced in phases throughout the year, can be accessed by any newly-diagnosed cancer patient or caregiver as part of the initiative, and will be offered in four (4) languages, with support from on-site, manned help desks at all major cancer treatment hospitals. CANSupport will also provide free psychosocial support services, including financial, clinical and peer counselling; clinical psychology; play-therapy; and dietetics.

Dato’ Dr Saunthari Somasundaram, President of NCSM explained that CANSupport was an important initiative that can help improve the quality of care for childhood cancer patients in Malaysia. “We are delighted to partner with TCS and MAG and appreciate their support in providing the much-needed transportation support and technology solutions for better patient care. We hope that more like-minded individuals and organisations will join this initiative. By working together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of children undergoing cancer treatment and their families,” she said at the launch officiated by Anthony Loke, Minister of Transport and Lukanisman Awang Sauni, Deputy Minister of Health.

NCSM supported over 874,361 Malaysians impacted by cancer in 2022 alone. With this reach, CANSupport is estimated to potentially reach 10,000 people within the first year and is projected to directly help more than 1,000 childhood cancer patients yearly.

“We are honoured to be part of CANSupport that is a pioneering initiative designed to help monitor pain experienced by childhood cancer patients and we are committed to leveraging our global technology and expertise in providing value-based healthcare solutions towards this goal. It is also the first ever initiative that ‘humanises’ technology in Malaysia, which is in line with Tata Group’s 150-year legacy of giving back to communities,” said Jeevan Rajoo, Country Head of TCS Malaysia.

Philip See, Group Chief Sustainability Officer of MAG commented, “We are pleased to play a role in this collaboration to ease the burden of patients and their families during challenging times. MAG is committed to positively impacting these patients’ lives and providing convenience for their travel to attend necessary treatment in a safe environment. Our MAG airlines are dedicated to ensuring safe and seamless travel by adopting the highest safety and hygiene standards across all end-to-end touchpoints so patients can continue to Fly Confidently.”
