From family roots to football fields: Mahali Jasuli's journey
June 22, 2019
Hailed as one of Southeast Asia’s brightest talents, Mahali Jasuli has made a name for himself as a midfielder for Johor Darul Tazim FC. Currently on loan with PKNS FC for a year, Mahali is renowned for his dynamic forward runs and his keen eye for goal, often delivering spectacular performances on the field.
Mahali’s impressive football journey began early. In 2009, he had the unique opportunity to play against Manchester United during their pre-season tour of the Far East. A year later, he scored his first international goal in the AFF Suzuki Cup against Laos, followed by another goal in 2012 against Indonesia. Early beginnings and family support Representing Mutiara Gombak football club during his time at Selayang Baru 2 Primary School, Mahali’s passion for football blossomed long before he even entered kindergarten. “My dad used to bring me to the field when I was five years old. Although he wasn’t a professional footballer, he played with an amateur team. I watched him train and play every week,” Mahali recalls. This foundation laid the groundwork for Mahali's future in football. By the age of 11, he was selected to represent his school in inter-school competitions. His family played a crucial role in his development, providing unwavering support. “My parents were very supportive and excited when I started training. They attended every match, motivating me whether I won or lost. Their encouragement has been invaluable,” he shares. Maintaining peak performance To stay physically and mentally fit, Mahali adheres to a balanced diet rich in vegetables and white meat, along with a strict hydration regimen of at least two liters of water daily. “When I train, I sweat a lot and can lose one to two kilograms, so staying hydrated is essential. Getting seven to eight hours of sleep is just as crucial,” Mahali emphasizes. His match-day nutrition is meticulously planned. For breakfast, he consumes eggs, bread, and fruits, which he considers the most important meal. Lunch typically consists of spaghetti or salads with chicken breast. Additionally, he boosts his energy with a chocolate bar an hour before a match. Mahali avoids oily and spicy foods, as well as carbonated drinks, to maintain optimal performance. The discipline of football For Mahali, time management and punctuality are vital in football. He stresses the importance of daily training and a healthy diet to stay fit. “Discipline is the key to success. Training every day is crucial,” he notes. Mahali is grateful for the lessons football has taught him, including passion for the sport, respect for others, persistence, focus, responsibility to his club and country, and discipline. “All of these experiences have shaped who I am today,” he enthuses. With aspirations to help his club win the Malaysia Super League and hopes for Malaysia to compete in the World Cup in the near future, Mahali believes, “We surely can, one fine day.” |
