Stretch and strengthen muscles with gyratonic and gyrokinesis movements
April 2, 2019
Beyond Movement, a new boutique fitness studio in the heart of Bangsar, has opened its doors for people from all backgrounds to improve their movement, long-term health and wellness.
“At Beyond Movement, we combine efficient strategy with proper biomechanical knowledge that affects the fascia system which is made up of fibrous connective tissue containing closely packed bundles of collagen fibers oriented in a wavy pattern parallel to the direction of pull. Although similar to ligaments and tendons due to having collagen as their major component, fascia surround muscles and other structures, while ligaments join one bone to another bone, and tendons join muscle to bone,” said co-founder Gan Yee Fen. To meet the growing demand for quality classes, the studio offers Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis exercises, which can be practiced in group or private classes. Gyrotonic method The Gyrotonic methodology allows you to stretch and strengthen muscles, while simultaneously stimulating and strengthening connective tissues in and around the joints of the body. These exercises are synchronized with corresponding breathing patterns, thus enhancing aerobic and cardiovascular stimulation and promoting neuro-muscular rejuvenation. “Gyrotonic exercises offer complete freedom of movement. Exercises are performed on the professional designed exercise equipment, specially created to incorporate the key principles of gymnastics, swimming, yoga and dance which muscles group worked interdependent and in an integrated manner,” explained Gan. The Gyrokinesis method Gyrokinesis is the little sister of Gyrotonic, whereby the exercises allow one to work on the entire body through seven natural elements of spinal movement: forward, backward, left side, right side, left twist, right twist and circular, as well as all other joint articulation, all the while on a chair and mat. This approach systematically and gently works the joints and muscles through rhythmic and undulating movements. In addition, these movements stimulate the body's internal organs, while different corresponding breathing patterns are integrated along with the movements. |
