Jeneath Wong shines at WAAP, breaks into World Amateur Golf Top-100March 12, 2025
Jeneath Wong, the 20-year-old Melbourne-based Malaysian, has made headlines following her stunning victory at the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP). This triumph has propelled her into the prestigious top-100 of the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), landing her at 78th after a remarkable ascent of 45 places.
Wong showcased her exceptional skills at Vietnam’s Hoiana Shores Golf Club, clinching the title in the seventh edition of this premier amateur championship for women in the Asia-Pacific region. Currently in her third year at Pepperdine University in California, Wong's victory has not only enhanced her ranking but also secured her invitations to three LPGA Majors and several high-profile tournaments in 2025. Among the prestigious events she will participate in are the AIG Women’s Open, Amundi Evian Championship, and The Chevron Championship. Additionally, Wong will compete in the Hana Financial Group Championship, ISPS Handa Australian Open, Women’s Amateur Championship, and next month’s Augusta National Women’s Amateur. While Wong was unable to compete in Vietnam due to her college commitments, her compatriot Mirabel Ting continues to lead the WAGR among Asia-Pacific players, currently sitting in third place. Ting holds a narrow lead over Rianne Malixi from the Philippines, who had to withdraw from the WAAP due to injury after just five holes. The top-10 of the WAGR also features 16-year-old Korean talent Oh Soo-Min, who rose to eighth after finishing as runner-up to Wong in Vietnam. Other notable improvements came from Korean golfers Hong Su-Min and Park Seo Jin, who climbed 77 and 45 spots, respectively, after strong performances at the WAAP. As the competition heats up, the results from Hoiana Shores signal a promising future for these talented golfers on the international stage. |
