Sazali Samad still going strong at 51
December 22, 2018
Do you feel that you're past your prime and that muscle building is out of reach? Think again. Sazali Samad, a remarkable 10-time Mr Universe, continues to thrive in the world of bodybuilding at the age of 51. His journey serves as an inspiring reminder that dedication and the right approach can defy age-related limitations.
“As you age, there’s no doubt that muscle, bone, and connective tissue mass naturally decrease along with hormone production,” Sazali explains. “However, bodybuilding can counteract this effect, making you look much younger than your actual age.” A peak into Sazali's daily routine Sazali's daily regimen is meticulously crafted to support his bodybuilding goals. On regular days, when he is not preparing for competitions, his routine includes:
During competition periods, Sazali ramps up his intake to an impressive eight meals a day, ensuring his body receives the necessary nutrients for peak performance. “It all depends on an individual’s genetics,” he notes. “With nearly 30 years of experience, I know my body well. I reduce oily foods, which helps maintain muscle mass even on days when I’m not competing.” The role of protein in bodybuilding Sazali emphasizes the importance of protein in the bodybuilding community. He recalls that protein shakes gained popularity in the 90s, a trend he embraced as an additional source of nutrition. Back then, there were only a few brands available, but today the market is flooded with a variety of sports-related protein products. “Everyone needs protein in their diet daily as it is essential for body tissues, growth, and contributes to muscle mass and bone health,” he explains. However, he cautions that excessive protein intake can put pressure on the kidneys. “If used correctly, it can yield positive results.” Sazali shares that he has experienced adverse effects from high protein consumption in the past, prompting him to consult with his doctor, who advised him to moderate his intake. “Although protein shakes are convenient, bodybuilders should first consult a doctor. These supplements should be seen as an addition to a balanced diet.” He stresses that traditional methods of building muscle through a balanced diet rich in chicken, fish, and meat remain superior. While rice can be included, it should be consumed in recommended portions. Keys to success in bodybuilding Achieving a sculpted physique requires more than just a high-protein diet. “Bodybuilding is gaining popularity, and the industry is expanding. To succeed, one must be disciplined and willing to make sacrifices,” Sazali asserts. He emphasizes that commitment and consistency are crucial for anyone looking to excel in this demanding sport. In conclusion, Sazali Samad’s journey exemplifies that age is merely a number when it comes to bodybuilding. With the right mindset, nutritional strategies, and discipline, anyone can pursue their fitness goals, regardless of age. |
